TRANSPORTATION

NIST is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, about 40 km from the center of Washington, DC. The area is served by three major airports: Washington Dulles International Airport has a large number of international flights, Baltimore/Washington International Airport has a smaller number of international flights, and Washington's Ronald Reagan National Airport has only domestic flights and limited service to Canada.

NIST is located about 5 km from the last stop, Shady Grove, on the Red Line of the Washington DC area Metro system. From this Metro Station, much of the Metropolitan area of Washington, including the Mall, the White House, the Capitol, the musea, Union Railway Station, and Reagan National Airport, can be reached by Metro train. From Shady Grove to the center of Washington, DC, the ride takes about 35 minutes. During working hours, NIST runs a shuttle van to/from the Metro Station every 30 minutes, and the Conference hotel runs a shuttle every 30 minutes, day and evening.
